Cornish Christmas beach swims
Hold your horses - before you crack open the Christmas bubbles or tuck into those chocolates you’ve been eyeing up on the side, why not head into the great outdoors for a chilly winter dip in the sea? If this sounds like your idea of a good time, stick around! We’ve put together a list of beaches in Cornwall that are known for hosting festive swims.
Christmas Day
You may be frozen solid, but the thought of a warming Christmas dinner will keep you going! Come prepared with blankets, layers and a flask of something hot to warm you up afterwards!
Bude
Head to Crooklets beach in Bude for the Christmas Day swim. There will be a volunteer patrol by Bude Surf Life Saving Club, from 11am for a short time, which presents a good time to enter the water.
Polzeath
Hayle beach will be welcoming eager swimmers for Christmas Day, with mulled wine and other hot drinks aplenty afterwards!
Boxing Day
After the indulgences of Christmas Day, going for a frosty dip in the sea could be just the answer to make you feel a little more refreshed.
Perranporth
Wash away the cobwebs at Perranporth’s Boxing Day swim. Participants should gather at the beach at 10.30am, to enter the water at 10.45am. Afterwards, there will be refreshments at Perranporth Surf Life Saving Club.
Charlestown Beach
Hosted by Charlestown Rowing Club, this event raises vital funds for the National Coastwatch Institution, with participants pledging to raise a minimum of £10. Visit their website for the sponsorship form. The swim takes place at 11am.
New Year’s Day
Make a splash into 2025 with these New Year’s Day swims near you.
Harlyn Bay
Head to Harlyn Bay, near Padstow, for their annual New Year’s Day dip, starting at midday so you have the chance to nurse any potential hangover from the night before!
Newquay Harbour
Raising money for CLIC (Young Lives vs Cancer), the swim will take place at Newquay Harbour - fancy dress is welcome!
Please be aware that swims can be called off due to poor weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, so it’s best to keep an eye on local Facebook groups or individual pages closer to the time for all the latest info and updates.
If you’re organising a Christmas beach swim and we’ve missed you off this list, please email some details to rosie@life-media.co.uk so we can spread the word!
