Young people encouraged to get designing for children’s architectural model competition

Have you got children at home who are always drawing, or scribbling weird and wonderful designs? A local architectural model competition may be just the ticket for them!

Launceston-based PLACE Architects is holding their annual children’s architectural model competition for children in Cornwall and Devon, aged 4-11. The competition is free of charge, and puts local young talent in the spotlight, with a public exhibition showcasing the entries to parents, families and the community.

It is now open to enter, with judging set to take place on 23rd May when models will be presented in PLACE Architects’ offices at Northgate Studios. The public exhibition will run between 24th and 31st May. This year, the design brief is ‘Bridges’.

It's always difficult to choose the winners!

Having started six years ago, the competition gives young people a chance to get creative and explore new skills. Who knows, you may just have the next best architect living under your roof! Entries can also be accepted from schools, groups and clubs.

So, let your child’s imagination run wild and let them design and build their very own architectural model. Models should be dropped off between 22nd May (8.30am-5.30pm) and 23rd May (8.30am-12pm) at Northgate Studios in the morning of 23rd May, with judging set to take place in the afternoon. Make sure to give the model a label with the child’s name, age and school.

Simply register your child/children before 16th May by emailing people@placearchitects.co.uk

The competition is a collaboration between PLACE Architects, Launceston Town Council, The Orchard Centre and Make Stuff Happen CIC, as well as new partners Causley Trust to bring the public exhibition to the Launceston Poetry Festival.
