Christmas beach swims in and around Falmouth

Hold your horses - before you crack open the Christmas bubbles or tuck into those chocolates you’ve been eyeing up on the side, why not head into the great outdoors for a chilly winter dip in the sea? If this sounds like your idea of a good time, stick around! Not only do these events get you up and moving during the season famous for chocolates, Baileys and mince pies, it also brings the community together, and allows everyone to share in the Christmas spirit.

Christmas Day

Gylly Beach

Falmouth’s Christmas Day swim welcomes masses of eager swimmers into the icy waters of Gylly beach every year. Those wanting to take part (or who’d rather stand back and watch with a hot chocolate) should gather at the beach at 10am. No wetsuits are allowed for this swim, so it’s all about stripping back to your cossie or budgie smugglers and diving in!

You may be frozen solid afterwards, but the thought of a warming Christmas dinner will keep you going! Come prepared with blankets, layers and a flask of something hot to warm you up.

Coverack

If you find yourself out of town for Christmas, or fancy heading somewhere a little different, there will be a Christmas Day swim at Coverack, supporting Cancer Research UK. The swim takes place at 12.30pm, at Coverack Harbour. Fancy dress is encouraged for this swim!

New Year’s Day

Gylly Beach

Make a splash into the New Year with the annual New Year’s Day swim at Gylly beach. Wetsuits are allowed for this one, so if you can’t be apart from yours, this may be the festive swim for you. Get to the beach at 12pm to join the festivities.

Please be aware that swims can be called off due to poor weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, so it’s best to keep an eye on local Facebook groups or individual pages closer to the time for all the latest info and updates.

If you’re organising a Christmas beach swim and we’ve missed you off this list, please email some details to rosie@life-media.co.uk so we can spread the word!
