A winter message from Launceston Foodbank

For many the countdown to Christmas is a happy and exciting time; but for some it’s a time of year they dread. Money worries, large heating bills and illness, to name a few, can cause tremendous feelings of failure, despair and anger of not being able to provide the extra food and gifts for your family, especially your children, writes Yvonne King, Launceston Foodbank Project Manager.

At Launceston Foodbank we try to alleviate some of these worries by asking for donations of food that we associate with Christmas, such as Christmas puddings, biscuits, chocolate, sweets, crisps, selection boxes, etc. With these extra donations we make up Christmas gift parcels for people and families who are struggling or in crisis. We try to help as many people as possible, and in past Christmases our local community has shown us how kind and generous they are with the food and gifts we have received.

Whether it’s just one extra item in your weekly shop, a collection at your workplace or even a

reverse advent calendar; every item will make a difference. You can drop your donation in the

various donation boxes in the local supermarkets or pop them down to us at the foodbank on

Newport Industrial Estate. We will have our Christmas shopping list and a reverse advent calendar on our website along with details on how to contact us.

Our thanks to you all for the kindness you show to others.
