From Falmouth to Toronto: The musician inspired by Cornwall

Cornwall’s landscapes have inspired artists from all over the world. In this case, Alexander Paul Burton - born and raised in Falmouth, and now living in Toronto, Canada - has drawn inspiration from his upbringing in Cornwall and created new music that is captivating listeners on both sides of the pond.

Burton’s music evokes the rugged beauty of the Cornish coast, the rolling hills, and the quiet yet powerful energy that shaped his creative journey.

Having attended Redruth School and grown up surrounded by Cornwall’s natural landscapes, Burton’s early experiences left an indelible mark on his compositions. His lo-fi, electronic and Christmas music all carry a distinct influence from his roots, blending modern sounds with the timeless essence of Cornwall’s windswept shores and historical charm.

Cornwall’s fantastic scenery and the strong sense of community in Falmouth are two of the main components in Alexander’s musical career.

He said: “Growing up in Falmouth and spending time in Cornwall, I was always inspired by the dramatic coastlines, the village life, and the slower pace of life that allowed me to really observe and feel the world around me. Cornwall shaped the way I see and create music, grounding my work in a sense of place, nostalgia, and natural beauty."

The tracks offer a peaceful, reflective experience, while his Christmas music brings warmth and connection to the holiday season. As an LGBTQ+ artist, Burton continues to use his platform to promote inclusivity, authenticity, and the power of community.

Having performed internationally, including in London’s Covent Garden, Burton has continued to build a presence in Toronto’s arts scene. His latest music is available now on major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
