Spring Sounds lands in Launceston
Enjoy the power of music at a brand new event springing into Launceston this month.

Spring Sounds is a new community event for musicians, organised by the team at Make Stuff Happen CIC, a community interest company supporting heritage and arts activities in East Cornwall and West Devon. Residents and visitors to Launceston will be able to enjoy a range of musical performances from a variety of genres and artists between 10am and 3pm on Saturday, 22nd March, across the town centre, including the Square. There will be a performance area on Church Street, as well as 'pop up' musicians in the side streets.

Featuring everything from rock and indie soloists and folk instrumentalists, to classical and jazz performances, Spring Sounds will have an eclectic mix of music to suit all ears. It also presents a fantastic opportunity for beginner or 'rusty' musicians to take a step into the spotlight with the support of more experienced artists who will be performing on the day. Acts such as Suave Saxophone Quartet, Launceston Slow & Easy Folk Group and the Wreckers Border Morris are all expected to make an appearance, and students from Launceston College will be performing too.
The event will be a chance for people in Launceston to come together in their community and enjoy a range of performances that are set to showcase local talent.
Other activities on the day include a 'have a go' session with the Wreckers Border Morris after lunch, and a town crier tour with Rob Tremain, starting at 11.30am, in memory of Les Kennedy. Donations for Cancer Research UK will be gladly accepted, and you can book your place on the tour at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/launceston-town-crier-tour-tickets-1267630299349
A raffle will have some amazing prizes up for grabs, including Easter eggs, homewares, and even an illustration of a building of your choice by Make Stuff Happen's in-house artist. If you're a local business who would like to donate a raffle prize, do get in touch with the team.

The event ties in with Make Stuff Happen CIC's ethos to encourage people to try new things right here in their community, while spreading joy across the town.
The Make Stuff Happen team are encouraging the community to come along and get involved, even if just to hang out in the Square and listen to the performances. Organisers are particularly keen to hear from local organisations who would be interested in having a gazebo in the Square to connect with the community, and anyone who would like to offer a helping hand on the day, or at any future events. They'd also love to hear from any acoustic soloists/ensembles of all styles and abilities, and anyone in the community who has an idea for cultural, arts or heritage activities in the local area.

The event, and other activities organised by Make Stuff Happen CIC, is raising funds to put on more performing arts opportunities for developing musicians and artists, and for a community stage to help make quality local events more accessible and boost the level of cultural activity in the town. So bring some change and pop what you can in the buckets on the day, or buy a raffle ticket to support their efforts.
Tash Baskerville of Make Stuff Happen CIC said: "We would like to thank our supporters, including Orchard Centre, Cllr John Conway, Fonehouse, Viaduct and Launceston Town Council, also our volunteers Wayne Hudson, Anita White and Barry Elms, Launceston First Aid Service and all the amazing performers ans supporters. We are also grateful to Mad American for hosting musicians' cases, etc. It's a real community affair to welcome in Spring. We look forward to supporting the good work of existing local organisations to put on more events in future."
