Community spirit at Christmas: Launceston’s community Christmas Day lunch

A team of volunteers are inviting people who may be struggling to their free community Christmas lunch on Christmas Day.

Held at Launceston Central Methodist Church, the community Christmas lunch is in its eighth year and was set up to provide a Christmas dinner for those who are in need of support.

Evie Hendrix, organiser, said: “There are sadly many people struggling financially, physically, emotionally; some who are housebound, homeless, or who would otherwise be alone. We provide a safe, warm, friendly environment; a hot three-course meal and refreshments - and some food to take home afterwards - and a gift from Santa.”

For those who can’t get to the church for mobility or health reasons, the team will also be delivering Christmas meals, so everyone in the community can enjoy a hot meal and some festive cheer on Christmas Day.

Crucially, it is the volunteers who help make this important event possible. Whether it’s collecting food items for the lunch, or donating gifts; spreading the word about the event; wrapping gifts; preparing and serving the food and refreshments; delivering to those who are housebound; or simply making people feel welcome as they walk through the doors - volunteers are at the heart of this incredible initiative.

The event is completely free to attend, and people should arrive at 12.30pm for lunch to be served at 1pm. Please contact Evie to book your place: 07815 651 054 or email lansonchristmas@gmail.com
